UNITED WAY ANNOUNCES GRANT WORKSHOP

United Way of the Eastern Panhandle Hosts Workshop to Kick Off New Grant Cycle

MARTINSBURG, WV – United Way of the Eastern Panhandle (UWEP) has announced a new grant cycle set to open on January 31, 2020. All 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, including schools and government agencies, that serve the West Virginia counties of Morgan, Berkeley and Jefferson are eligible to apply for funding.

United Way will offer two grant opportunities in this cycle. Community Impact grants are available for requests over $5,000 and LIVE UNITED grants are for $5,000 and under. Each will have different application and reporting requirements.

An organization may submit multiple applications for separate programs. However, any funded program may receive only one Community Impact or LIVE UNITED grant per UWEP’s fiscal year which runs from July 1 to June 30. All grant proposals must align with United Way’s four strategic impact areas of Education, Financial Stability, Health and Basic Needs.

The application process is overseen by UWEP’s Board of Directors and its Community Investment Committee. Throughout the review process, reviewers utilize an assessment tool to evaluate applications based on quality, alignment with United Way of the Eastern Panhandle's funding priorities, and ability to demonstrate measurable results. Once the review is complete, the committee makes recommendations to the Board of Directors for new funding allocations which are announced in May for the following fiscal year.

The grant application period will run from January 31 through February 28. Applications will be available on UWEP's website at uwayep.org/united-way-grants.

Over the past fiscal year, United Way of the Eastern Panhandle distributed grants to 32 area non-profits to fund 39 programs addressing homelessness, hunger, education, health, literacy, and financial stability.

A grant application workshop is scheduled for 9 a.m. on January 31 at the United Way office located at 24 District Way, Suite 201, Martinsburg, WV 25404. Attending the workshop is not required, but it is highly recommended.
