Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Panhandle

Big Brothers and Big Sisters is in need of adult mentors (age 18 years of age and older) to spend time with a child between the ages of 6 and 14.  By spending 3- 5 hours of time, two to four times a month, you can have a successful mentoring relationship with a child that will contribute to a brighter future, better schools, and a stronger community for all.  Mentors help children reach their potential through a professionally supported, one to one one relationship.  For more information, visit the Big Brothers Big Sisters webpage www.bbbswv.org.

Boys and Girls Club of the Eastern Panhandle Volunteers are needed to help daily in Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan County clubs with after school programs.  Tutoring and homework help if needed during Power Hour.  Volunteers are also needed to help increase programmatic offerings and to help with committees, fundraisers, and special events.

CASA of the Panhandle

CASA volunteers to serve as officers of the court, working alongside attorneys and social workers.  They talk with the child(ren), parents, family members, neighbors, school officials, counselors, doctors and anyone else significantly involved in the child's life that might have facts about the case. They review all court documents pertaining to the case, and then prepare and submit a formal report to the judge at the scheduled hearing or case review.  They continue to monitor the case to assure that the judicial and child welfare systems are moving ahead to secure a safe, permanent home for the child, and that court-ordered services are provided to the child and family.

Community Alternatives to Violence (Common Purpose of the Panhandle)

Friends in Action of the Eastern Panhandle

Friends in Action, located in Shepherdstown, is seeking an organized and computer literate volunteer to provide approximately 12-18 hours of administrative work a week.  The volunteer is needed during regular business hours Monday - Friday

Hospice of the Panhandle

Hospice of the Panhandle is seeking patient care volunteers to provide support services which include, but are not limited to, respite care, meals, driving to appointments, visiting with patients, taking children on outings, light housekeeping, light gardening, etc.  A teen volunteer program is also availalbe, but teens must be ast least 14 years old.  Volunteers must participate in a volunteer training course.

Eastern Panhandle Medical Reserve Corps

The Eastern Panhandle Medical Reserve Corps is seeking medical and non medical volunteers age 18 and older to assist with a variety of needs related to meeting the health and social services need during a disaster.   Volunteer needs include administrative, computer and website assistance, security, traffic flow and logistics, child care, interpreters, first aid, psychological support and more.

Eastern Panhandle Chapter American Red Cross

Volunteers are needed for a variety of positions including:

Disaster Action Team members are the first Red Cross volunteers to the scene of a disaster and provides immediate disaster relief assistance, such as shelter, food and clothing, to people displaced because of a disaster. Training is provided by your local American Red Cross. Positions are currently available in Jefferson, Berkeley and Morgan Counties.

Health and Safety Instructors - help your local community by training local community and business members in life saving skills such as First Aid and CPR. Contact your local American Red Cross for additional information. Positions are currently available in Jefferson, Berkeley and Morgan counties.

Blood Services- help with local blood drives in your community by greeting incoming donors, Escorting donors to the canteen station or help with registration. Training is provided by your local American Red Cross. Positions are currently available in Berkeley and Morgan Counties.

 

Receptionist- Assist your local American Red Cross by using your customer service skills by answering incoming calls, filing, and data entry. Positions are currently available in Jefferson County.

 

Appropriate training is required for most positions.
