Lieutenant General William John Van Ryzin AwardJune 2007
Lieutenant General William John Van Ryzin Award: Lieutenant General William John Van Ryzin, established the United Way of Jefferson County in the late 70’s. The Van Ryzin award is in memory of his unassuming but tireless and visionary leadership in establishing and growing United Way and honors outstanding achievement on behalf of the United Way.
Annual Lieutenant General William John Van Ryzin Award: Chip Bennett our Van Ryzin awardee served as a volunteer in every facet of United Way operations. Day of Caring, Campaign, Tocqueville Chair, Funds Distribution, Governance, and special committees: he has been there for United Way whenever asked. He has completed his two three-year terms on the board, yet continues to serve. As a campaign volunteer, he's willing to make the tough asks and single-handedly attained a $100,000 donation for us last year. He's also a visionary. He recognized that the United Ways needed to transform and was self-less in his support of all the work associated with bringing the United Ways together. His leadership style and self-less service truly fit the Van Ryzin model. Congratulations and thank you, Chip!
