WORDS FOR ALL ROTARY DICTIONARY PROJECT
A child develops his understanding of the world and builds a frame of reference on what he or she knows,” says Mary French, who founded The Dictionary Project in 1995 in Charleston, South Carolina. “A dictionary provides the knowledge to better understand our world and the words to share information.” The Project’s mission is simple - to put dictionaries in the hands of as many children as possible. The Project began in the Eastern Panhandle in 2005 and since that time over 3,000 dictionaries have been given to third graders. United Way of the Eastern Panhandle funds the program in Berkeley and Jefferson Counties.
