United Way Receives $100,000 from Two Area Businesses
Dan Ryan Builders & Quad Graphics

by Sandy Sponaugle

Martinsburg, WV - The United Ways of the Eastern Panhandle announce two recent major corporate donations. Dan Ryan Builders and Quad Graphics have contributed funds to both the United Way of Jefferson County and the United Way of Berkeley & Morgan Counties. Dan Ryan Builders has generously contributed $50,000 to the United Way of Jefferson County and $25,000 to the United Way of Berkeley & Morgan Counties for a total contribution of $75,000. Quad Graphics, based in Martinsburg, has made a donation of $25,000 to the United Way of Berkeley & Morgan Counties. These monies totaling $100,000 will be used to provide matching donations from individuals, families and personal foundations in the community that give gifts of $5,000 or more.

With a contribution of $5,000 or more, partnered with the Dan Ryan Builders and Quad Graphic match, donors will become members of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society, which was created by the United Way of America to recognize those persons whose generous support contributes to the greater good of the community. It is named after Alexis de Tocqueville, a keen observer of American Society in the early 1800s, who wrote "When an American asks for cooperation of his fellow citizens, it is seldom refused; and I have often seen it afforded spontaneously and with great good will".

“Together, the Eastern Panhandle United Ways have been very successful in helping to assist those less fortunate with de Tocqueville Society members contributing close to 25% of the funds raised,” stated Jan Callen, executive director of the United Way of Berkeley and Morgan Counties. “We are thrilled to have the generous support of Quad Graphics and Dan Ryan Builders to assist us in fulfilling our community needs.”

“Without the support from Dan Ryan Builders and Quad Graphics, we could not have maintained the campaign levels that we have had in the past,” explained Susan Pellish, executive director of the United Way of Jefferson County. “For the last few years, we have counted on the support from Dan Ryan Builders and are overjoyed that they contributed at such a magnificent level this year.”

The United Ways of the Eastern Panhandle enhance the quality of life for all area residents by focusing on community impact and raising and directing funds to meet community need.
