Legacy Society

Purpose:

The United Way Legacy Society recognizes individuals who are planning legacy gifts or making outright lifetime gifts today to a United Way Endowment Fund that will provide significant benefit to our community in the future. Members will receive a certificate of appreciation; will be honored at events, in our annual report and other gift registries.

How to become a member:

Simply let us know that you have made a lifetime gift or are planning to make a legacy gift to a United Way Endowment Fund. A legacy gift of any size or one or more outright gifts during your lifetime totaling $1,000 qualifies for membership in the United Way Legacy Society.

The following are legacy gifts which, when confirmed in writing to the United Way of the Eastern Panhandle, qualify for membership in the Legacy Society:

  • Bequests through your will;
  • Gifts of life insurance;
  • A gift or assigned benefits from retirement plan assets, such as an IRA, 401(k) or 403(b);
  • A life-income gift that names United Way as a remainder beneficiary, such as a charitable remainder trust, a charitable gift annuity, or a pooled income fund;
  • A charitable lead trust that provides income to United Way for your lifetime or a term of years.
