PREVENT CHILD ABUSE COMMUNITY GRANT OPPORTUNITY: With funding from the West Virginia Children's Trust Fund, the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, and the WV Department of Health and Human Resources, Prevent Child Abuse West Virginia announces the opportunity for organizations and individuals working to prevent child abuse and neglect in West Virginia to apply to participate in the Partners In Prevention initiative.  The purpose of this grant program is the primary prevention of child abuse and neglect in the state.

Prevent Child Abuse West Virginia is inviting community teams to apply to participate in its successful Partners In Prevention initiative.  Partners in Prevention is a statewide network of thirty-three community teams implementing various community projects and working together to build strong families and communities in order to prevent child abuse and neglect.  Up to seven new community teams are expected to be added to the network this fall.

Priority will be given to those communities that do not currently have a Partners in Prevention team.   The Partners In Prevention grant program requires a team of at least three local organizations and the involvement of parents working together in a community.  Once selected in the Partners in Prevention network, participating teams receive annual grants of up to $7,500 to conduct local projects to strengthen families, protect children and engage the public in efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect.

Additional information, including a directory of current teams and project descriptions and a resource guide for Partners in Prevention teams, is available at www.preventchildabusewv.org/partners.php.  Information is also available at the WV Children's Trust Fund website, www.wvctf.org.

Application guidelines for Partners in Prevention Community Teams are available on the Prevent Child Abuse West Virginia website at www.preventchildabusewv.org.  Application deadline is August 13, 2010.

For information specific to the grant program, contact Genny Ferri, Community Partnerships Coordinator, at  (304) 438-5655 or 1-866-4-KidsWV (866-454-3798) or email genny@teamwv.org.

The Quitline, 1-866-WVQUITT, is available 24 hours a day for 7 days a week. Its purpose is to to educate prescription drug abusers and their families about the problem and services in their areas.   For more information, www.wvrxabuse.org.
